Better Late than Never!!!

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all doing ok and keeping safe during these weird times we are living in.
I thought I would pop on and share the make I did for Toms birthday way back at the start of August!!! He turned 17 and I gave him driving lessons for his birthday but as you will see from my post hes only had 1 and the rest have had to wait!!!

Thank You to the folks who have reached out to me to see how I am doing.
Its been a stressful year with a couple of bereavement's and the last few months have been difficult as Tom has been seriously ill.
Tom was away at an Outward Bound Adventure of a lifetime at the start of the summer and when he came home he was under the weather.
Initially put it down to not eating the food there as he didn't like it and he was really exerting himself with lots of outdoor adventures. (He even climbed Ben Nevis while feeling slightly unwell!!!)
He just didnt pick up and his symptoms were all very vague. He tried to go back to school after the summer but he was so exhausted and by that stage was hardly able to eat so we went back to the Doctors. (We had already been). Thanks fully the second Doctor called the main hosp for the area and he was to go up the next day for investigations.

That was the 1st of September and he was admitted that day and was in for 3 weeks. He has had infective endocarditis. (An infection in the lining of his heart.) He has a small congenital heart defect (a little hole)  and the bug (Strep Mitis) got into his system and went to work. He had so many tests. Very brave lad!!!  He was on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. 3 in hosp and 3 at home with me being trained up to do them at home for him. Our kitchen was like a wee medical room with all the drugs and stuff!!!
He now has 2 appointments next week at the main hospital in Scotland for Congenital Heart issues. He will find out then if they want to do heart surgery as once you have had endocarditis you are more likely to get it again and it may be a safer option to have the hole closed. So its been a very stressful time all round for the poor boy.

He feels much better now and has just about caught up on his school work! He is such an academic lad.

My make was meant to be shared way back but as you can imagine I have been a tad distracted! I still havent really been in the craft room much. My mojo has well and truly hidden! Very stressed out worried Mum here!!

The tent has a tealight in it so it lights up at night. I added some extra bits to it as one of the only days Tom went out over the summer after his adventure trip he went fishing with a friend. They caught mackerel but Toms ones were too wee so had to go back in the sea. Im quite relieved at that as I dont think I would be able to gut a fishy!!!

Thanks for dropping by today.

Love and Sparkles,
Hazel xx

You created an absolutely amazing card for Tom, a perfect reminder of his Outward Bound Adventure.
So sorry to read about his serious health scare,I hazard to guess how worried you must have been, hopefully the Consultant will be discuss his options with you both next week.

Hi Hazel, that's a fabulous creation - amazing work! The tealight gives it such an atmospheric look.

So sorry to hear that Tom has had such health problems - must have been a nightmare for both of you. Especially for you though, we worry terribly over our children don't we even when they are fine, can't imagine what it must be like when they have proper health scares. I do hope everything goes well with his appointments and he makes a full recovery.

He's very good to have caught up with all his school work as well - kudos to him!

Best wishes to both of you,

Sarah

What a great make for Tom Hazel and a wonderful keepsake.
I went to an Outward Bound School for a month when I was in my late teens (up in your part of the world too - sadly I think it is no longer there but I remember the single track road up that huge hill well and the spectacular view) - I loved it.
A worrying time for you and hope things go well for Tom. x

Hi Hazel, I'm so pleased I managed to find you again. I was looking at my xmas card list, and it dawned on me that I hadn't seen you in Blogland for some time. I put it down to loosing your details on my reading list as Blogger changed some things, and could I remember the name of your blog... no I couldn't, anyhoo I eventually had a light bulb moment and here I am. However I do thing I'm not getting your posts up, I had to google your blog to find you.
I am so sorry to hear that Tom has been so ill, and that you and your family have has such a stressful time of it. I wondered initially if Covid had caused your issues. I hope Tom gets his op, although that's a scary thought too. Poor lad, but wonderful he's managed to catch up with his studies.
I love your little make for him, very creative.
I'll have to scroll back through your posts to see what I've missed.
I'm finding Blogger such a pain as I used to have all the blogs I comment on on a list on my side bar, but that seems to have disappeared now. I hope I can find a way to get you back on my reading list.
You take care hugs, Kate x
